Honestly, i never thought I would get hooked up in such a book. It was highly recommended and it is such a LEGEND with its enemies-to-lovers trope.
I kinda forget how the storyline goes, but the book follows the character Jude, and her sisters. SPOILER ALERT! the story literally starts by their parents getting killed and them being brought to the Fairie Kingdom.
In the Fairie Kingdom is where the main character is raised with her sisters, there he met Prince Cardan (ik what a namee), and i promise there is nothing romantic going on between those two. They hate each other sm from the start. Imo, their bickering is kindof childish and immature at first, yk the type to prove who’s right and ego’s playing the card. Until..
It was such a good way to make readers hooked up with the storyline and the ROMANCE, as someone who read a lot of romance books, it isn’t really that spicy, but that ONE part, iykyk ❤
But then, betrayals and crownings happen and a lot of monarchy wars to claim the throne yada ii. But, like we all know, Cardan would end up being the High King, BUT, crowned by Jude because they believe the one who got the crown in their hands are the true king, also, the crown was cursed that only the royal line can claim it.
To me, it was a solid fantasy world building, and I enjoy how fast-paced it is. Her writing is so easy to read, and you’re at the last page before you realised it. I say it worth the hype, but not the best book i’ve read. I say it is a decent read.
“If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse.”
Fyi, this book is pirate 🏴☠️ , beach, treasure, mermaid 🧜♀️ , love 💕 triangle all packed together in a perfect perfect book.
I am so disappointed that I binge it because the writing ✍️ style is *chefs kiss*
The story follows a princess 👑 that possess a power which is soul magic 🪄. And only her royal bloodline possess that magic.
If other people try to learn more than one magic, they will die coz …
Idk maybe the royal bloodline have magical tolerance 🤷♂️
Every single continent there possess different magic 🪄.
To make things simple, every part of the continent can only possess one ☝️ magic.
But BUT one of the continent have this greed 💀☠️ to possess more than one magic which cause them to be banished out from the rest.
Nevertheless, they still learn more and wanted to rebel and overpower the royalties.
Bruh, i don’t wanna spoil everything but
THE ENDING WASS HOLYYY PLOTT TWIST. 🫠🤫🤭🫣😏🥺☠️☠️🤞
it changes the train 🚂 track. Entirely.
Not to mention, the love ❤️ triangle, GOD pirate’s relationship sure is complicated 🙄.
But poor guyy, the one that love her till the end but ends up rejected coz they’re set up as an arranged marriage. Tapi laki tu still love her unconditionally ugh wth tak appreciate langsung 👎🏻🙄.
And he has healing ❤️🩹 magic ok jkhdgajkajajsksk *one kiss is all it takess falling in love w meyh~~~~*
Pls this book, is the perfect definition of wanting to read because TO INCREASE VOCABS. Because the writing style was 💣 .
It is simple yet complex. I love LOVE Adalyn Grace’s writing ✍️ style.
The way she described the world 🌎. It’s so realistic and surreal. I think this book deserves recognition. It does have a good world 🌎 building
Final decision, I think this book is PHENOMENAL
*chefs kiss 💋*
“I shut my eyes as the ocean swallows me whole. Water floods my lungs, and I choke on the one thing I love the most. The sea. The waters of my kingdom. They’ll be the death of me.”
Okay, the book was okay. Okay is not decent. Decent is not good.
It’s not that the story isn’t good, okay lemme just give you some context so you could understand a little bit better.
So basically this story follows a school. It’s weird and I don’t think it’s considered a school because there’s no teachers. No rules.
I thought the book is like Hogwarts from HP. But, it isn’t. Its not your average, wands, 🧹 magic, spells from cauldron, or robes with witches 🧙♀️ hat. It’s nothing like that.
If you have been reading a lot of books 📖 you’ll know that magic 🪄 is general. So, to be specific, the magic in this book are “mana-styled”. It was kinda rare to find this type of magic in books soo for me it was kind of interesting.
Okay continuing the story, there are two main characters Orion and Galadriel. Omg what an amazing name but such a badass. Okay, ngl I’m kinda confused like are they supposed to be attracted to each other? Is this some enemies to lovers trope? Because I don’t see any. They had ONE ☝️ kiss scene. But, for me that doesn’t count AT ALL. I don’t know why I’m soo frustrated 👊🏻🎃 about it. The author really put in the effort to describe the world 🌎 building. It’s heavy details and sometimes it’s too detailed I don’t know what is going on.
Oh yes, the kiss 💋 scene. She doesn’t bother to describe it. At all 🫤. It was JUST one phrase. Containing 4 words. So you can’t really see their chemistry 🧪.
Also, in the book, El (Galadriel), seems to have this major hate towards Orion. My innocent self thought it will be an enemies to lovers shit.
BUT OH HOW I WAS DECEIVED ❌😡👊🏻.
Tbh, I don’t hate enemies to lovers. But her hatred is unreal. Although how much time he saved her. I mean, I feel like it’s part of the plot. For me, it sounds soo unrealistic.
It’s like the author trying to make this book 📖 an enemies to lovers and just ticking ✅ off the enemies list, of the amount of hatred that they had towards each other. But, the thing is, she missed the lovers part (does that makes them an enemies trope??). Because, they doesn’t seem to have any feelings to each other. At all. Then, suddenly, a kiss scene. How weird is that? Also, the kiss scene was horrible cuz Orion makes the move, but El nudged him for a spell. It was not a good scene.
Also, because the books are thoroughly focusing on Scholomance 🏫. (Or whatever the name of the school). You just don’t have as much things to talk about. Considering how small 🤏🏻 the range you have set for the book . So, most of the time. This book is just about El doing stuff in her school.
I considered DNFing this ❌. But, considering the price 🏷 and pretty cover. I had to finish it. Just to know what happens last. Let’s be real here, I skimp along the pages a little bit ( a lot ).
Oh also, for the record, I HATE the ending too. It ended in a cliffhanger 🏔.
Just some petty spoils, the ending was El’s mother sends her a letter of how much she loves her (suddenly). THEN, PROCEED TO TELL EL NOT TO GET INVOLVED WITH ORION.
LOok At hOw UnrEaLIstiC ThaT iS!!? Like even even if you don’t read the book.. How can a mother knows what her child is doing at school? Not to mention, IDEK HOW THEY GOT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE ☝️. and all those killing 🔪 stuff, is just unreal.
Things I appreciate in this book, is how relatable i am w El, because, the book values self-love and mental issues. You kinda have to agree of her thoughts too.
This book is a single POV book which is Galadriel’s POV. So you’re literally just in her heads.
Overall, 2/5⭐️. I’m not sorry. I’ve regretted it. The writing style is boring and not for me. It’s just like throwing informations w/out a flow. Glad it’s fast-paced tho. If you like heavy-detailed books. Pick this up.
“Do you need to be walked?” , I asked, eyeing him.
“No, I don’t need— what are you doing?” He bursts out.
“What?”
“Why are you being this nice?” He said. “Are you mad at me for something?”
I’m honestly speechless.🤐Who would not be when you just finish the book seconds ago. 🥴One thing, just one thing, 👆I’m glad i bought the sequel before I started this one ; it’s so addicting you could not stop.🥴🤤😖
I dare say 👀 her writing style is flawless, ✨it’s easy yet complex. It’s dangerous yet graceful. The way she pictures 🌆 every scene.
However, I feel like; although there is a love ❤️triangle trope in here (which i love love 💕 ), and u hoped the main character end up with the side that u love, i assure u Cassandra Clare gave u ur wishes in THE. BEST. WAY. 😘She made ur wish come true in again I REPEAT, the most interesting and fascinating way that I could never EVER think of. 🤌🤌
I honestly have nothing to critique on this one. It’s beautifully made. ✨💖
Wait, i think the fight scenes are a little bit draggy. But that’s just heavy details to make the scenes alive (its a compliment) 😊. I got hooked upp wayy faster than I anticipated.
Let’s move on to the characters, my fav part. My darling 🌹 James Herondale. First impression, what a glam, heroic, knight-like name. The whole time when his scene came up. I got overly excited 😜 . He’s like that one cool 😎 guy in class where u felt excited on what he’s up to next. Personally, ‘James’ give me a blond hair vibe. A black one is totally new for me.
Cassandra Clare is a total genius when she’s making names for her character. It’s just gives the impression of something. Even if you JUST know their name. Yk what i mean(?) .Like, Grace Blackthorn. Even if you do not read the book yet, you might already get the impression of what’s the character is like. JUST BASED ON THE NAMESS .
Their nicknames. Ma’am you certainly know what you’re doing. 😏 Because that is thoroughly my softspot. Daisy, Layla for Cordelia… 😌😙
5/5 🌟. Idc if it’s unfair.
Math, Luce,Jamie,Kit.
That’s so cute 🥰 .
The poems in between chapters. They have to take the credit too. It’s ingenious and poetic.
I love it. It’s like an art 🖼 piece together.
Overall, 5/5⭐️
“Do not let those who cannot see the truth tell you who you are. You are the flame that cannot be put out. You are the star that cannot be lost. You are who you have always been, and that is enough and more than enough. Anyone who looks at you and sees darkness is blind.”
Okay hmm… how do i say about this. Honestly, I don’t rlly like it, don’t get me wrong, this book has the literature , the finest, teeny, antsy 🐜 details i had ever seen. So worldbuilding, check ✅. It has that element completely. So u get the precise image of the world it describes. Perfecto 🎵. But, i think the story is kinda draggy. this… THISS is my biggest argument. ITS A SLOW-BURN THAT IS TOO SLOW 🤭. So u kinda get bored and sleepy while reading this. Don’t come at me i just felt it was like that *tomatoes tomatoes 🍅 * After I considered the details and all the silver linings and creative plots, I thought i would settle for
3/5 ⭐️
But lemme tell u, (wait till the juicy part) when u reach that page… OOOH 😲 YESSS BAEE THAT PAGE, known across lands as THEE PLOT TWIST!!! ^_^ 🎭. That’s when things get interesting, no no.. fascinating, gets my attention OOOFF . Lemme tell u that twist is like a caterpillar 🐛 changing into a butterfly 🦋 in a SENNNAPP! 🤌 it waz gud. I changed my mind… 4/5 ⭐️ i promise, its the final descicion !
Okay okay i admit, Siege and Storm is a bit ngehh 😌 .. a bit disappointing. Its a bit BIT draggy, don’t come at me, 😖
But i feel like the book really goes in the values, the depth with the characters, it feels more realistic and humane.I feel like the book REALLY wanna tell you that the characters r actually human, Alina felt her powers are overwhelming and unassured with herself sometimes 😔, and Mal, OH BOYY MAL. we stan Mal peeps 🤘🏻. He gets jealous but AGAIN he’s human and he loves Alina soo much ( since both alina and mal is a badass i hv a love-hate relationship w both of them ).
Oh i almost forgot, I mean… the whole point of this book would be the ice-water creature idk i forgot omg. Okay okay i’ll call it the Morozova creature thing. 🐍I feel like 24% of the pages ONLY talked about that. After Alina slayed it, its gone. The spice is there but it feels wrong for me . It’s the wrong spice. ( idk what im saying )
Like Alina and the prince , Zoya and Mal, it feels wrong 😑
But lemme tell you, the plot twist r bomb! 💣There’s so much plot twist, betrayal🗡, misunderstandings. Leigh Bardugo. Ma’am, u really knows how to catch our attention.😘
ok ik its not enemies-to-lovers but the main character does betray each other is that enemies (?)
The ending ends with SUCH.A.SUSPENSE. 😏✨✨ p/s : i suggest u to prepare the third book 🪶b4 reading the second, because you’ll crave to know what happens nxt!
4/5 ⭐️
“Then lets leave,” I said wildly. I knew I wasn’t making any sense, but I didn’t much care. “ Let’s run away, tonight, and forget we ever saw this place.”
He let out a bitter bark of laughter. “ Do you know how much I want that? To be with you without rank or walls or anything between us? Just to be common again together? He shook his head. “ But you won’t do it, Alina”
Ladiess and gentlemen, I present you, classic grishaverse, shadow and bone ,👻 🦴the first book of the trilogy.
Lemme tell u , the book is amazing, it’s simple, it’s delicate. Its such an easy, fast-pace 💨 book.
For me, what i love about it, is the ✨BALANCE✨ . It has romance ❤️, with a hint of spice 🌶, (if ya know ya know😏🤪) it has worldbuilding and fantasy, just so u get the picture of the difference of worlds that r happening
The adventures *muahh* when they’re finding the stag 🦌 . The betrayal, the twistss
*chefs kiss 💋*
I rlly recommend this, if u need a break, but not too long frm the real world, or if ur a beginner i swear it goes by rlly fast i read it in a single sitting 🪑. Its addicting and the suspense OOHHH THE SUSPENSE😯. *squealss*
5/5⭐️ go get it!
P/s: i see mixed reviews abt this book b4 buying, n i admit I’m skeptic b4 i bought, but it’s worth it yeeee ☺️ (dont listen to ppls review, judge it after u read it urself 😉)
